Emergency Shelter

Emergency Shelter Foster Care provides a foster family for youth who are in crisis, have been suddenly removed from their current home, or are new to DCF. Youth only stay in their Emergency Shelter placement for a maximum of 45 days as a more long term plan is created. The Home provides a variety of service and supports to support parents as they help these fragile youth.

What to expect As An Emergency Shelter Foster Parent

Youth in Emergency Shelter are often anxious and confused. Their lives have just been turned upside down over night and they need a special adult to create a safe, stable, and positive environment. They require a high level of care which is why there needs to be at least one stay-at-home foster parent available at all times.
