Brodkin Award Anchors Recognition of Exemplary Community Connections

The annual award honoring the life and philanthropic work of A. Keith Brodkin was combined last year with awards to recognize the many other valuable partnerships and community connections that enhance the work of The Home for Little Wanderers.

In a ceremony last November at our Boston’s Hope program, B.O.L.D. Teens (Breath of Life Dorchester) and Animals as Intermediaries were presented with the A.Keith Brodkin Award. Joyce Lee Taylor, The Home’s Vice President for Programs, also presented Collaboration Awards to nine individuals from various state agencies for their “above and beyond” efforts on behalf of children and families in our region:

  • Carolyn Boehne (ABCD: Action for Boston
  • Community Development, Head Start)
  • Ashi Hosseinmardy (South Side Head Start,
    Roslindale)
  • Beth O’Malley (DSS Hyde Park, Adoption)
  • Corliss Bouknight (DMH Case Manager)
  • Courtney Kemps (DSS Harbor)
  • Kelly Townsend (DSS Arlington)
  • Sally Darvill (DSS Adoption)
  • Sharon Singer (MBHP)
  • Trod Harold (DSS Park Street)

The A. Keith Brodkin Foundation established the Brodkin Award at The Home for Little Wanderers in 2001 to honor Mr. Brodkin’s legacy as a business innovator, community leader and philanthropist. We are grateful to Judy Brodkin and the Brodkin family and friends for their continued support in helping The Home build strong partnerships with other community organizations to benefit children and families.

Virginia Griffin Honored with Volunteer of the Year Award

Michael Weekes, President of MCHSP, presents the award to Virginia Griffin.

The Massachusetts Council of Human Service Providers (MCHSP) recentlypresented its Volunteer of the Year Award to Virginia Griffin, a long-standing volunteer at The Home.

Virginia has been a dedicated volunteer at Longview Farm, a residential treatment program for emotionally disturbed boys. For the last ten years her steadfast support has had a powerful impact on their lives. Virginia has not only helped raise a significant amount of funding for the program, but also opened her business, Watson’s Candies, to the boys so that they could gain work experience. Other local businesses in Walpole are now following Virginia’s lead and creating similar job opportunities.

The Home is always on the lookout for new volunteers and mentors. To learn more, please visit www.thehome.org or contact Sarah Van Blarcom at svanblarcom@thehome.org or 617-585-7521.
