Allston Brighton Early Childhood System of Care Promotion, Prevention, Intervention
ECSOC: Our Vision and Activities | What is a System of Care? | For Organizations For Families | Resources | Community Events | Partners
Since March of 2007, the United Way of Massachusetts Bay has funded the Home for Little Wanderers to lead a four year initiative to develop an early childhood system of care in Allston-Brighton.
A community board meets monthly to plan details of a system that will meet their vision for the Allston Brighton Early Childhood System of Care:
All children birth to seven in Allston-Brighton are thriving and ready to learn.
Families and caregivers in Allston-Brighton have the tools and resources to support the healthy development of their children.
Through the Allston-Brighton Early Childhood System of Care initiative, our community works together effectively to improve access to high quality resources, services and tools.
The board consists of parents, caregivers and representatives from existing organizations and programs in the neighborhood – including schools, healthcare and child care facilities, business, religious, cultural and recreational groups.
In addition to developing our system, the board also develops activities and services for families and professionals, including:
- Free, monthly parent workshops
- Professional development trainings
- A community resource guide in three languages
- Focus groups to learn more about the needs of the community
- Collaboration with over 30 partner organizations to provide information for families and activities for children at an annual Allston-Brighton Family Resource Fair
- New playgroups so that more families can participate
- A parent mentor position to better serve families with information and referral
Contact Ruth Smullin at 617-254-1520 or rsmullin@thehome.org to find out how you can participate.
