For more than 225 years, The Home for Little Wanderers has been committed to ensuring that all young people have the supports and safe surroundings they need to thrive. Today, that commitment is reflected through nearly 40 programs, including Waltham House, Out at Home and Unity House, our specialized programs designed to provide competent, therapeutic care and community to LGBTQ+ youth and their families.

Waltham House is New England’s first residential group home specifically designed for LGBTQ+ youth. The program provides a safe environment where residents can receive individualized support while preparing for reunification with family, transition to foster care or independent living. Staff work closely with each young person to help them establish stability and a promising path forward, keeping their unique circumstances and goals in mind.
Building on this model, Unity House extends the same critical care to young people in New Hampshire. As the state’s first residence of its kind, Unity House addresses a critical gap in services, offering specialized care closer to home for youth who have historically had limited access to LGBTQ+ resources. Staffed by licensed clinicians, Unity House offers stabilization services, treatment planning and therapeutic care for individuals, families, groups and couples. Like Waltham House, residents are supported as they work toward reuniting with family or living independently.

Operated in coordination with Waltham House, Out at Home provides comprehensive outpatient services for LGBTQ+ youth and their families. The program offers therapeutic support, family engagement and consultation services, all designed to help families better understand and support their children. Out at Home also partners with schools and community agencies to improve education, acceptance and local resources for LGBTQ+ youth throughout the region.
With these programs, The Home strives to raise the standard for dedicated LGBTQ+ services in our communities, to ensure that youth and families feel understood, empowered and less isolated.
