INTENSIVE SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES… IN THEIR WORLD

The Home for Little Wanderers’ Safe at Home program provides intensive short-term home- and community-based family services and therapeutic mentoring services for kids with behavioral health needs and their families. Our team works with children from birth until age 21 for three months to one and a half years. Our Safe at Home team of clinicians, therapeutic training and support staff and therapeutic mentors work with children and their families on a short-term basis, offering in-home therapy, therapeutic mentoring, family stabilization services and safety and behavioral plans. Safe at Home is designed to be flexible and meet families where they are, so they can best access and sustain services with the support of their community.

THE NEED:
Many children struggling with their mental and behavioral health have high needs and high-risk behaviors that cannot be managed with outpatient counseling alone. Families often need additional supports when caring for youth who are in psychological, behavioral or emotional distress.

OUR IMPACT:
We work with children and families to help keep youth safe at home and in the community, improving the child or adolescent’s functioning, increasing coping skills, opening lines of communication, and improving family dynamics and relationships.

HOW WE HELP

At Safe at Home, our goal is to keep children safe while fostering better communication through the family. We aid in the development of clear limit setting, using the family’s strengths to establish boundaries for youth to help them develop self-control and feel secure and ultimately empowered. We achieve this through In-Home Therapy, our intensive home- and community-based family service, Department of Children and Families Support and Stabilization and our Therapeutic Mentoring service, which supports youth with a one-on-one therapeutic relationship within their community, outside of their home and school.

PRIMARY SERVICES:
  • Individual and family therapy, two to three times per week
  • Creation of effective safety and behavioral plans
