Home / Training Institute / LGBTQ+ Resources
At The Home for Little Wanderers, we recognize that LGBTQ+ youth often face unique challenges that can impact their mental health, family relationships, housing stability and overall well-being. Creating environments where every young person feels safe and supported for who they are can have a profound and lasting impact on their health, resilience and future.
For decades, The Home has been a leader in providing competent, evidence-informed care for LGBTQ+ youth and young adults through both outpatient and residential services. We also partner with organizations, schools and community providers to build their capacity to support LGBTQ+ individuals with confidence and compassion.
Through practical strategies, current research and real-world application, our goal is to equip professionals with the knowledge and confidence to foster more inclusive spaces where LGBTQ+ youth and families can thrive.
In this training, participants will explore and reflect on their own identities, values and biases, and work together to develop an understanding of how these various factors influence their interactions with LGBTQ+ clients and colleagues, even when they themselves identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community. The training will cover three aspects related to supporting LGBTQ+ identities, including self-knowledge, belonging and advocacy. Participants will leave with increased skills and confidence for building healthy relationships with and communities of support for LGBTQ+ clients, families, and colleagues.
