26.2 Meaningful Miles

We couldn’t be prouder of The Home’s Running Team for the 130th Boston Marathon® presented by Bank of America and their fine finish!

On April 20, ten road warriors laced up their running shoes in support of The Home’s vital programs, helping to provide safety, stability, lifelong connections and opportunities for youth across our community with every stride.

We asked three of our dedicated marathoners to join our runners’ circle to share why they went the distance to create better, brighter futures for kids…

CLARE EMMERT

“I ran for The Home because this organization has had a significant impact on my education and training as an occupational therapist. Through my fieldwork placement there, I learned the values of patience, dependability and unconditional compassion as a therapist. I ran to promote resilience and possibility. A marathon is an expression of determination and grit, made possible through the support and love of the community around you—to me, this is the very work of The Home, ensuring children have the best chance at an unlimited future.”

SARA STURTEVANT

“I ran for The Home to support the incredible work being done to transform lives for youth in need. The Home is an organization that’s very close to my heart, providing vital support to children and families experiencing hardship. I first learned about The Home through my mom, who has been an advocate for youth in need my entire life. She has worked to help The Home’s clients firsthand. Her professional journey inspired me to take on my own 2026 Boston Marathon journey. The knowledge about The Home helped instill in me a determination to support its mission and to bring hope and joy to the children in its programs.”

SEAN MEEHAN

“Growing up in Greater Boston, the Boston Marathon has always been more than just a race to me—it’s a symbol of our community’s spirit, resilience and heart. In 2023, I stood along the course to watch my sister run. Seeing her cross that finish line on Boylston Street—surrounded by cheering crowds and unwavering support—lit a spark in me. This year, it was my turn to take on those 26.2 miles and run for something even bigger than myself. The Home for Little Wanderers’ calling is simple but powerful: to help children and their families build stable lives and hopeful tomorrows. Every step I took on Marathon Monday was for the kids who’ve faced unimaginable challenges and for the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure no child has to go through life alone.”
